DOH to trace norovirus in Zamboanga

The Department of Health (DOH) is now investigating about the cause of norovirus outbreak in Zamboanga.
According to DOH Secretary Janette Garin, they want to know where the virus started.
Has norovirus been here even before, or someone brought it here? Contact tracing is being conducted to identify the index case,” Garin said.
The outbreak was detected due to increase of diarrhea cases recorded on Zamboanga City Medical Center.
Garin added that the virus is contagious and can be acquired on infected person, contaminated food and water and by touching contaminated surfaces.
As of today four persons died while almost 700 were hospitalized.
The virus causes stomach and/or stomach inflammation resulting to stomach pain, nausea and diarrhea.
